Moving Packing Ideas
1. Use the appropriate sized boxes for packing
Pack books and other heavy items in small boxes when moving; light items, such as linens and pillows, can be packed in larger ones. (A common complaint of professional movers is large boxes packed with heavy items. They not only make the job more difficult, but they also have a higher chance of breaking.)
2. Place heavier items at the bottom of the boxes and lighter items on top.
And, if you’re loading the truck yourself, place the heaviest boxes near the front of the truck for balance.
3. Do not leave any blank spaces in the boxes when you pack.
Clothes, towels, or packing paper can be used to fill in the gaps. Movers frequently refuse to move boxes that appear to be loosely packed or unbalanced.
4. Try not to put items from different rooms in the same box.
It will make packing and unpacking much faster and easier.
5. Label each box with the room it’s going to and a description of what’s inside.
This will assist you and your movers in determining where each box belongs in your new home. Numbering each box and keeping an inventory list in a small notebook is a good way to keep track of what you’ve packed and ensure that you have everything when you unpack.
6. Securely tape your moving boxes

9. Organize your wardrobe
Packing clothes for moving can be done in a variety of ways, including folding them and placing them in cardboard boxes, suitcases, or even leaving them in the dresser (if it does not make the dresser too heavy to move!). Use a special wardrobe box for hanging clothes so that you can hang your clothes right in it. (As an added bonus, you won’t have to figure out how to pack your hangers for moving!)
When packing shoes for moving, you must protect them from one another. Wrap shoes individually to prevent sharp heels or buckles from damaging other shoes and dirt from one pair of shoes from contaminating the rest of your shoes. Socks can be packed into shoes to help them keep their shape.
When packing jewelry, you can reuse some items to assist you—for example, necklaces can be strung through straws or toilet paper rolls to keep them from becoming tangled.

Some movers wrap TVs in quilted furniture pads as if they were any other piece of furniture. Plasma TVs, on the other hand, require special wooden crates for shipping if the original box is missing and can be ruined if laid flat. If you’re packing it yourself, double-box your TV by placing the box containing the TV inside another box padded with packing paper.
